The short running boy group survival show, Boys Planet, ended one year ago and has given us many incredible groups, such as TOZ. TOZ (To Our Zone), is a four member Japanese boy group under YY Entertainment and consists of members Anthonny, Hart, Yuto and Takuto. They made their Japanese debut in September 2023 and have now made a comeback along with their Korean debut with EP, “To my new friends”, and fun title track, “NU SHOES.” Similar to their first EP, “TO my new friends” showcases the group's many talents as well as illustrates their boyish charms through the tracks while containing a mix of slower melodies as well as up beat songs.
The title track, “NU SHOES”, is the first track on the album and helps to set the mood for the rest of the EP. It starts with some old school and retro vibes with the instrumentals before morphing into a more tame and fun beat. This track even had member participation as main dancer Hart even helped write lyrics. “NU SHOES” also has a great meaning, with lyrics such as “pave your own way” and “just go your way.” The members share the message of stepping into their new shoes and choosing their own path, which is a metaphor for life.
“Turning Point” is the second track on the album and also has some old school vibes along with a fun and addicting whistling sound that makes the song even more enjoyable. The theme of the song is to not listen to what others say and to just go forward and do it, which is an amazing recurring theme within their music. The third track, “Hello to my world,’ slows things down a bit and has some fairy tale vibes to it. The song begins with a bit of a slower tempo and beats that are similar to something magical, before picking up with some heavier drums. The lyrics and the beat seem to coincide as the magical sounding beats continue through the entire song, along with lyrics such as “thrill ride on the shooting star” and “shine, spark, make us,” with the theme of the song being to take one of the member’s hands and follow them into the world they live in.
“UNIVERSE” is another slower track on the album and is vocal heavy. The guitar is nicely paced and the members’ sweet vocals fit the vibes of the song well. The lyrics of the song are quite pretty, with the theme of the song revolving around someone changing and seeing the world or universe in a new light. “Agit” is the last track on the EP and is the slowest on the album. This track is also very vocal heavy and serves as a sort of ballad and more of a comfort song and is the perfect ending to the album. This track follows the members inviting someone over to create new stories and memories in their own world, and is a great conclusion.
This is TOZ Korean debut and the first time the members have attended music shows. Many TOPAZ (their fandom name) have no doubt been waiting for their Korean debut and to see them on these music shows. This is only the beginning of their Korean promotions, and we are excited to see what is to come in the future!
